Toxocara canis 2nd stage infective larva 290 - 350 microns x 18 - 21 microns in a Giemsa stain. T.canis is a common intestinal ascarid of the dog. Humans become infected when they ingest infective eggs in contaminated soil or food, larvae enter the blood stream and may locate in any organ of the body where they die causing an inflammatory reaction called Visceral larva migrans. (There is controversy as to whether this larval stage is 2nd or 3rd but currently it is thought to be second.)
